iEMS was formed in 2011 when a large gap was identified in the way that out-of-hospital health services were delivered to the Western Australian mining industry. Most traditional health care companies are providing health care services that are limited to the provision of poisons permits and medical consultations only.
Missing from this service delivery model is the key concept of clinical governance. Clinical Governance is the process of ensuring that health care delivery is safe and efficient and includes:
- Provision of a robust policy base to manage legal and best practice compliance
- Verification and validation of practitioner qualifications
- Defined levels of practitioner authority linked to evidence-based clinical practice guidelines
- Regular auditing of both total medical services and individual cases
- Implementation of a sentinel event and clinical incident reporting and investigation system
